Day 1: Reunited
We flew from Athens to Brussels and had an overnight layover. Three reasons we booked our flight this way: 1. It was the cheapest flight from Athens to Spain. 2. To do laundry. 3. To get our car seat because we will be traveling around Spain in a rental car. After our one night at home we headed back to the airport and were reunited with my parents and Willie!! It was so exciting to see them sitting in the Brussels Airport!
We got to Sevilla after a 2 1/2 hour flight and got on the city bus to take us downtown. As we wandered around the downtown we kept wondering why all the stores were closed. Had we over looked some holiday? Then we realized everthing closes from 2-5pm for siesta. We found the apartment we had rented which was right next to the big bull fighting stadium. We had a traditional Spanish tapas dinner which consisted of about 10 really good plates of food!! Lucky for us, Willie lived in Spain and is fluent in Spanish and could help us figure out what to order. Some of the favorite dishes were fried cheese, Spanish tortilla, and Bull tail! When in Spain:)
After dinner we decided to go to a Flamenco show. It was a 90 minute show with singing and dancing. I loved all of the different dresses the ladies wore and how fast they moved their feet. Maddie loved the show and sat quietly on my lap through the whole thing.
Day 2: Sevilla Cathedral and Royal Alcazar
The pictures above are of the Sevilla Cathedral. It is the 3rd largest in the world and the largest gothic style cathedral in the world. While the Moors ruled Spain it was converted to a Mosque but today is a Catholic cathedral. It is also the burial site for Christopher Columbus. Below are pictures of the Royal Alcazar or Royal Palace. The king still uses this as a royal residence when visiting Sevilla. The room in the next picture is where Christopher Columbus came back from America and told about his travels and the name of "America" originated!
