Mykonos, Greece July 29th-August 1st

Mykonos, Greece

Our Flight from Istanbul to Mykonos was only one hour and it flew by because they served us an entire meal. We are now big fans of AtlasJet! We arrived at the very small Mykonos airport and got in a very long taxi line to head to our hotel. It took about 45 minutes to get a taxi, which seemed crazy, but we later found out there are only 30 taxis on the whole island. We took the cab to Ornos Beach and arrived at our hotel which was called Anemos Apartments. It is a cluster of small white buildings with blue doors and window treatments, perfect for Greece! We were greeted by a very friendly Greek family that owns and manages the hotel. The first night we walked around the small town of Ornos that consists of one store, a few beach resturants, a few hotels, an ATV rental shop and a beautiful white sand beach. We bought Maddie a beach floaty which was the best 10 Euros I spent on the trip and headed to try it out at the beach.
It is the perfect beach babysitter!! We then grabbed Souvlaki for dinner which compares to Gyros in America, but better. We also stopped by the market and could not pass up the "buy 2 get 1 free" deal on Oreos! We put Maddie to bed and enjoyed a beautiful evening on our patio. We liked it so much that this became our nightly routine!!
We experienced firsthand that Greek yogurt is much tastier in Greece, as it was part of the filling and delicious breakfast that the cute family served us each morning. Maddie was a big fan!
After breakfast, we got ready to go, snaped a few pics outside our room, then started the long, hot walk into Mykonos town to explore.
Mykonos is famous for these windmills that are located in Mykonos town so we headed there first. Then we continued on to the narrow winding streets filled with tourists shops.
After we got home from town we were very hot and sweaty and headed straight to the beach.
The water was the clearest I have ever seen and the tempurature was perfectly refreshing! I was especially happy that Maddie loved the beach. She would get so happy and splash around in the water and she loved sitting in the shallows and crawling around on the sand. After the beach, we got cleaned up and had dinner at a resturant on the sand called Kostanti's.
Finally, we capped the evening off with a little photo shoot at the hotel before putting Maddie down to bed.

Day 2: There is Nothing Better than Brunch with your toes in the Sand!!

Our day began with a relaxing morning, our same Greek breakfast, and then a dip in the swimming pool.
It was nap time for Maddie; we put her down in the room and relaxed on lounge chairs on the patio while she slept. It was a true vacation moment for us parents.

On a side note, at the Mykonos Airport we met another American couple and bonded with them as we waited for a taxi. We made a plan to meet for lunch today at Nammos an awesome beach resturant at the beach next to ours. The resturant was on the sand and had a great ombiance. Then we grabed some lounge chairs and relaxed on the beach.
Maddie played so hard in the water then crashed for her first ever beach nap. So sweet holding my baby girl at the beach... Dreams do come true!!
In my opinion, evening is the best time of the day at the beach and it was a beautiful evening at Psarous Beach. Then home for our favorite dinner and a quick swim!
High five daddy for such a great beach day!! Then next morning we packed our bags and our amazing hotel staff took us to the ferry dock for our ferry to Naxos, Greece!

Observations about Mykonos:
1. It is a party island where the average age is about 25 and the average bedtime is about 3am.
2. Transportation can be a challenge. There are only 30 total taxis on the island, the city bus is terribly crowded, we tried to rent a car or ATV for a day and in the town where we stayed, Ornos, they were all sold out!
3. It is one of the most expensive Greek Islands, or so we were told. We experienced this when one of our lunches for 4 people cost 157 Euros and 6 Euros per person for a cover charge for the resturant. Kinda ridiculous if you ask me!!
