Naxos, Greece August 1st-3rd

Naxos, Greece August 1st-3rd

Day 1: Island Hoping

We sailed away from Mykonos on an enormous Blue Star Ferry. We were lucky to get a seat in the air conditioned inside cabin, as opposed to the outside deck were there were swarms of sweaty tourists.

After a quick 2 hour ferry ride we arrived in Naxos, Greece and set out to explore. We started with the Old Town which was a maze of narrow pedestrian/scooter only streets that lead up a hill to a white picturesque church.
The views at the top were breath taking although I still can not get over how desert-y these islands are.
Our next stop was the Temple of Apollo, which is located on a hill over looking the city and port. It is all in ruins except this huge marble door frame.
As you can see Maddie really likes family selfies! After an afternoon of exploring we were more than ready for a dip in the ocean.
Then it was time to find our hotel. We went to the local bus station and bought tickets and Kellen went to the bus stop and I went to find a bathroom. When I came out he was yelling for me because the bus was ready to leave, I'm glad I did not miss the bus! We got off the bus at Agious Prokopious Beach and set out to find Mina's Studios which is where we were staying. Agious Prokpoius is a small beach town with no big hotels, only small family run studio's, which adds to the relaxed, laid back atmosphere. We found it and meet Mina, the owner, an elderly Greek woman who loved Maddie and brought us a bunch of figs and free range eggs from her chickens for Maddie to eat! Yes, she had chickens, sheep, and lots of fig trees on the property. Figs have become a new favorite treat this trip! Our studio was nice, equipped with a kitchen, and had a great balcony to hang out on!
Next was bath time and bed time for Maddie then time to watch the Greek Sunset from our balcony!!

Day 2: Beach Bums

Our day was filled with a whole lot of nothing, which is exactly how we wanted it. We went to the local market in Agious Procopious to get some good for breakfast, goggles to snorkel with, and some new beach toys for Maddie. Maddie then took a quick nap and around noon we headed to the beautiful white sand beach right in front of our studio.
They day flew by and before we knew it it was almost 6pm and we were all tired of the sun and sand. That night we went to dinner at a resturant right on the beach and had a huge Greek salad and pizza. Then as we walked home we got to watch the sun set!

Day 3: Naxos to Santorini

There is not much better than a lazy Sunday morning and this is just what we had. We woke up late and took a stroll through town.
Mina's husband, who spoke absolutly no English, had offered to take us to the ferry dock so we loaded up a trunk full of luggage and Maddie in the back on Kellen's lap and headed out. When we were in the parking lot of the ferry dock about 50 meters from our destination we were stopped in traffic and a car back up right into the front of our car. Mina's husband jumped out of the car and started yelling at the other driver in Greek. Kellen and I sat there stunned and  silence, thankful that no one was hurt. After a few minutes of yelling back and forth both drivers got in their cars and drove off. It made for an entertaining ride to the ferry dock. We boarded the ferry and said goodby to Naxos!!
