Ghent, Belgium & Maddie is 6 months old

On Saturday, May 10th we spent the day in Ghent, Belgium touring with a coworker of Kellen's, Fred Loitin, who lives there. When we woke up to get ready to go we looked outside and to our suprise (because it never rains here ;) ) it was pouring. That put a damper on wanting to go walk outside all day. But we strapped on our rain boots and made the one-hour drive to Ghent. Lucky for us, by the time we arrived the rain had cleared up slightly.
Our first stop was a chocolate shop for hot chocolate where they literally poured many spoonfuls of Belgian chocolate into warm cream. It was just what I needed on a damp, drizzly day!
Next we took a tour of the main church that holds the painting "The Lamb of God" by Jan Van Eyck, a Flemish master.
Then we headed on to the old part of the city where there is an incredible medieval castle to explore.
Then we spent some time walking around the beautiful city. One reason it is so beautiful is because it has two rivers that converge in the city, which makes it seem as if there are canals at every turn.
We finished our day with an all you can eat spare ribs dinner, which is apparently very common in Ghent. Fred's fiancée, Lisanne, was able to join us for dinner as well. After eating more than our share of honey BBQ ribs, we headed home. Overall we were impressed with how charming Ghent is and grateful to Fred for showing us around!

As a bonus, today is Madison's 6 month birthday. Here are a few pictures of her at 6 months old.
