Madrid August 15th-18th

Madrid, Spain

Day 1: August 15th Bull Fights

The event of the night was a Bull Fight. We bought our tickets before coming to Spain and as Kellen and I talked about bull fights I learned that they actually killed the bull... I had not realized this before and was quite nervous to attend because I did not really want to see this. During a bull fight there are 3 madadorsb that each face 2 bulls, for a total of 6 bulls. Highlights: 1) The matadors still wear traditional outfits with lots of sequins. 2) When the bulls first run out, the band plays and the bull is so energetic and strong. 3) The architecture of the arena. 4) Each time the horses and bulls came out Maddie would clap and get so excited. It was a very interesting cultural event but the tourtuing of the bull was very sad and I will say I will not attend another bull fight.

Day 2: Tour of Madrid

With our Rick Steves book in hand we headed out on a walking tour starting at Plaza de Sol, or the main square of Madrid. Then we went on to Plaza Mayor.
Next stop this cafe that has pictures of all the matadors that have been hit by a bull. Pretty gruesome pictures!
Then on to Spain's Royal Palace.
After the amazing Royal Palace we went to the Prado museum. Each night from 6pm to 8pm it is free so we waited in the line to get in free and see some amazing pieces of art!
Then some ham with this sexy ham for dinner!! It was Kellen's last night traveling with us so we left Maddie at home with Grandma and Grandpa and went out exploring the night life of Madrid!!

Day 3: Sunday Funday in Madrid!

Willie served his 2 year LDS mission in Spain and we got to go to church in a ward he served in. It was so fun watching him talk to all the people and how excited they all were to see him!!
Then we had a relaxing Sunday evening which was much needed after so many days of traveling!

Day 4: The huge park and Renia Sofia

Our first stop was the Madrid temple. It was beautiful and they grounds were so clean and had tons of flowers!
I loved this statue of a family, a good reminder that families can be together forever!!
Then in to the park and a lunch break which included churros and chocolate- a Spain specialty. They bring you a cup if liquid chocolate and a plate of churros to dip in the chocolate. It's heavenly!
As we were taking the churros and choclate picture Maddie almost fell out of her stroller... And we caught the moment of panic on camera, well kinda!!
We finished our time in Madrid at the Reina Sofia Museum of modern art admiring some of Peblo Picazzao's and Salvador Dali's best works!!
